BRUCE “MATT” SPRAGG, age 46

Of New Bremen, died suddenly on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at 10:48 A.M. at the Joint Twp. Dist. Memorial Hospital in St. Marys. He was born on October 19, 1975 in Springfield, Ohio, the son of Marilyn (McLean) Spragg who survives in New Bremen, and the late Bruce W. Spragg. Also surviving are his wife Katie (Stelzer) Spragg of New Bremen and his three adoring sons: Gavin, Roman, and Quinten, all of New Bremen. Also left to cherish his memory are his sister Jen (Jeff) Hall of Springfield, his step-mom Mary and her husband Jim LaFollette of Springfield, his father and mother in-law Larry (Joan) Stelzer of Celina, sister and brother in-law Christie (Mark) Binkley of Celina, and his nieces and nephew: Harleigh Hall, Taylor Binkley, and Logan (significant other Bailey) Binkley.

Matt was a member of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen where he had been instrumental with installing the technology to enable live-streamed Masses. He was a 1994 graduate of Northridge High School near Dayton, and he went on to graduate with his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Toledo. His love of technology led him to a career in I.T. working first at Crown Equipment Corp. in New Bremen, but he was currently working at Continental in St. Marys. His life revolved around his boys. He loved nothing more than spending time with them in various capacities such as camping, coaching YMCA soccer, and watching OSU, Cleveland Browns, and Cincinnati Bengals football. Matt most enjoyed attending sporting and school events of his boys. He shared his love of playing board games, arcade games, video games, and taking vacations with close family and friends. His favorite activity was riding roller coasters which was a passion he shared with his whole family. He and Katie were also instrumental in bringing Lego League to New Bremen Schools.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen with Rev. Fr. Thomas Dorn and Deacon Mr. Greg Bornhorst officiating. The Mass will also be live-streamed on the church’s Facebook and YouTube pages. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date. Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 6, 2021 from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, and again prior to the Mass on Tuesday AT THE CHURCH from 9:00-10:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, the family strongly encourages that memorial contributions be made to help raise awareness and to help treat mental illnesses such as addiction by contributing to an organization such as the Family Resource Center or the Auglaize County Mental Health Board.
