He was born on April 2, 1962 in St. Marys, the son of the late Aloys S. “Junior” Sommer, and Marilyn K. (Swallow) Sommer who survives in New Bremen. On March 27, 1987, he married Mary K. Nichols who survives. He leaves behind his siblings: Alan (Christy) Sommer of Indian Trails, NC, Rhonda (Barry) Gill of New Bremen, and Theresa (Jim) McElwee of Delaware, OH. Also left to cherish his memory are in-laws: Jon and Jayne Nichols of Muncie, IN, Dan and Missy Nichols of London, KY, his mother in-law Charmaine Nichols of Muncie, IN and his numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his father, he was also preceded in death by his father in-law Bill Nichols.
David was a 1980 graduate of New Bremen High School. He was a member of Only Believe Ministries in Botkins where he had been active in the prison ministry, played drums in the praise band, and assisted as a sound board technician. As a rock and roll wannabe, he had also been a drummer in the band “Intrepid”. David also had a passion for cooking, and was an avid bicyclist for many years. Although he never had any children of his own, he had a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews and his pets. He had worked as a Project Manager based in Sidney for the Industrial Distribution Group. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
