GARY L. MOON, age 75

of New Bremen, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at his residence. He was born on September 15, 1945 in Lima, the son of the late Robert J. and Mabel M. (Richards) Moon. On June 1, 1968, he married Carol Jean Obringer who died on April 25, 2020. He is survived by his children: Charlotte Dues, Paula (Tim) Huddleston, and Mary (Todd) Smith all of New Bremen, his grandchildren: George Franks, Jr., Robert Franks, Kelly Miller, Benjamin Franks, Austin Miller, Piper Smith, Brylin Smith, Heather Huddleston, and Aspen Smith, and great-grandchildren Kailey and Aubrey Tatum, with another one on the way. Also left to cherish his memory is his sister Lynn (Albert) Freytag of Tennessee, and a number of nieces and nephews. Along with his parents and wife, Gary was preceded in death by a son in-law Greg Dues, and two grandsons, Kyle Miller and Christopher Dues.

Gary was a member of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen. He was a 1965 graduate of Lima Senior High School, and then served in the United Stated Army during the Vietnam War. A skilled mechanic by trade, he spent many years working on trucks at the former Tranco of New Bremen, and later working on construction equipment for Bruns Construction of St. Henry. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time at home tinkering around the house and working on his cars. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR races, especially when Jeff Gordon was racing. He and Carol enjoyed taking road trips, going on family vacations, and even took the Ohio grandchildren on a trip to Las Vegas to visit their cousins.

A Prayer Service conducted by Deacon Greg Bornhorst will be held on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen followed by interment in the German Protestant Cemetery of New Bremen. Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 16, 2021 from 3:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and also one hour prior to the services on Tuesday.
