Irene Therese Stammen, 84, of New Bremen, passed away peacefully on the Feast of the Nativity of the Lord, Friday, December 25, 2020 at the Elmwood Assisted Living Center in New Bremen where she had been a resident for the past 6 months.
She was born August 1, 1936 in Egypt, Ohio to the late Ernest and Verona (Berning) Winner. Irene married Harold A. Stammen on October 4, 1958 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Osgood, Ohio. He survives in New Bremen.
In addition to her devoted husband, Irene is survived by her five children, Jeanette Pahl of New Bremen, Richard (Chris) Stammen of Parker, CO, Linda (Matt) Axe of New Bremen, Paul (Jasmine) Stammen of New Knoxville, and Judy (Tony) Eshleman of New Bremen; 16 grandchildren, Caitlin (Cale) Baine, Benjamin Pahl, Mitchell, Stephen, and Kevin Stammen, Jon (Lisa) Axe, Jessica (David) Swisher, Alex, Anthony, Nickolas, Nathanial, Christopher, Cameron, Brandon, and Katherine Stammen, and Emma Eshleman; 5 great-grandchildren, Riley, Maddie, and Aubrey Baine, Jack and Bradley Swisher; her brothers, Ernie (Joanne) Winner of Lakeland, FL, Jim (Pat) Winner of Minster, Virgil (Sharon) Winner of Dayton, and Jerry (Donna) Winner of Minster; her sisters, Ruth (Jim) Dorsten of Port Orange, FL and Theresa (Urban) Holthaus of Ft. Loramie.
She was preceded in death by infant daughter, Mary Ann Stammen; brothers and sister-in-laws, Don and Elsie Winner, Dale and Patricia Winner.
Irene was a 1954 graduate of Minster High School. She was a former employee with Seiberling Latex Products and later retired from Crown Corporation in New Bremen. She was a longtime devoted member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in New Bremen and served as a Holy Duster.
Along with her husband, Harold, Irene enjoyed being a winter resident of Lakeland, FL from 2002 until 2018 where she was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Red Hat Society.
Irene loved taking fishing trips to Rice Lake in Canada and traveling all over the United States and Europe. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and would always greet everyone she met with a bright happy smile.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 120 South Eastmoor Drive in New Bremen, Ohio on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. Thomas Dorn, celebrant. Burial will follow at the German Protestant Cemetery in New Bremen.
Friends may call at the church from 9:00-10:00 A.M. on Wednesday. Praying the Rosary will follow the viewing. The Mass will be live streamed from the Holy Redeemer Facebook Website at https://www.facebook.com/HrCatholic/videos/ . Social Distancing will be observed during viewing and the Mass.
