JoAnn S. Grieves, age 83,
Formerly of Botkins, OH, died on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 6:55 P.M. at VanCrest of St. Marys. She was born on January 7, 1938 in Dayton, OH. She was the daughter of the late Mary (Bensman) Baumer and Herman Baumer. On March 2, 1957, she married Ralph D. Grieves and he preceded her in death on December 31, 2009. Survivors include her children: Kay (Lonnie) Ott of Botkins, Rich Grieves of Anna, and Karla (Jerry) Pence of Botkins; grandchildren: Jason (Kendra) Ott of Botkins, Josh Ott of Wapakoneta, Jessica (Alan) Sudhoff of Fort Recovery and Craig (April) Pence of Botkins; ten great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; her brother Don and Lois Baumer of Minster and her in-laws Gary and Pat Grieves of Wapakoneta. Preceding JoAnn in death were her two sons, Steven and Jody.
JoAnn was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Botkins. She retired in 2015 from the Best Western Motel in Botkins where she served as an assistant manager and also managed the books. She was a 1956 graduate of Minster High School. For over 50 years she had baked and decorated cakes for countless members of the Botkins area for a variety of occasions including birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and First Communions. Not only did she love baking and decorating, but she thoroughly enjoyed eating all types of sweets and candies. She enjoyed traveling the country with Ralph, watching Christmas shows on the Hallmark Channel, and crocheting afghans and baby blankets. She cherished her times with her family, enjoying each and every one of her grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 22, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Botkins with Rev. Sean Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery, Botkins. The family will be receiving friends on Friday October 22, 2021 from 9 until 10 A.M. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen.
