Julia grew up on the family farm outside of New Knoxville. She was a 1964 graduate of Wapakoneta High School and went on to graduate from the Northwestern Business College in Lima. She was baptized, confirmed, and married in the First Church of New Knoxville, but became a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen where she had been active in the life of the church. She was involved with the Women’s Service Group, the funeral luncheon committee, the Busy 12, and was a former Deacon and Elder of the church. She also belonged to the Twig Bender’s OCCL. She had worked as a secretary at Crown Equipment Corp. in New Bremen, was a bookkeeper at the former Minster Farmers Co-Op Exchange, and was a delivery driver for Abloom Flowers and Gifts in New Bremen.
