SCOTT S. KUENNING, age 64,

Of New Bremen, died on Monday, January 31, 2022 at 1:05 A.M. at his residence. He was born on June 15, 1957 in St. Marys, Ohio, the son of the late Stanley A. and Dona Mae M. (Speckman) Kuenning. On October 21, 1978, he married Linda M. Brown and she survives in New Bremen. Also surviving are his children: Greg (Heather) Kuenning of Cincinnati, Lee (Kendra) Kuenning of New Bremen, Andrew (Lindsey) Kuenning of Minster, Rob (Jackie) Kuenning of New Bremen, and Jeff (Caitlin) Kuenning of New Bremen; his thirteen grandchildren, and a brother Tim (Marilyn) Kuenning of New Bremen. Also left to cherish his memory are his father in-law, Alvin Brown of New Bremen, and his brother and sister in-laws: Lou (Deb) Brown of New Bremen, Leroy (Rose) Meyer of Ft. Loramie, Steve (Agnes) Poeppelman of Minster, Martin (Angie) Brown of St. Marys, Len (Lucy) Gaerke of Coldwater, Alan (Ruth) Brown of New Bremen, and numerous nephews and nieces. Along with his parents, Scott was preceded in death by his mother in-law, Ruth Brown.

Scott was a 1975 graduate of New Bremen High School and had attended The Ohio State University in Lima. He was an involved member of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen where he was active as the choir director and also directed the New Bremen Ecumenical Choir. He was also a member of the Minster K. of C. He was the President and CEO of Western Ohio True Value Hardware, a lifelong passion that he helped to grow along with his family. He was also very involved in the surrounding community over the years serving in many capacities including: President of the Minster Kiwanis Club, Bank Director for First National Bank, Minster Businessmen’s Association President, Founder/Director of the New Bremen Alumni Band, Co-Founder/Co-Director of the Auglaize County Alumni Band, Founder and Director of the AC Swing Band, Co-Founder of Lock One Community Arts, active in the Crescent Players; and he was on the O M Scott Co. Retailer Advisory Board and the President’s Council Board of True Value. Scott was also a supporter of New Bremen sports where he was bookkeeper and announcer at the boy’s basketball games for 20 years, was a bus driver for the sports teams, served as the chairman of the Vision Committee for the CBC Center, and he also supported the New Bremen FFA program and the New Bremen/German Twp. Fire Department. Outside of his business and civic duties, Scott enjoyed watching sports and was a big OSU Buckeyes fan. He also enjoyed collecting Winchester guns, family heirlooms, and working on his classic muscle cars. In his spare time he could often be found fertilizing and mowing his lawn or boating and waterskiing down at Lake Cumberland, but what Scott loved most was being with his family – especially his thirteen grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at 10:30 A.M. at the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen with Rev. Fr. Thomas Dorn, Rev. Fr. Joseph Brown, and Deacon Mr. Martin Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery of New Bremen. Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 from 3:00 until 8:00 PM at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, and again on Wednesday morning prior to the Mass from 9:00 until 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Scott’s memory can be made to the New Bremen Foundation (check memo: Scott Kuenning Music Scholarship) or to the Music Ministry at Holy Redeemer Church.
