CHARLES W. SLOAN, age 83
Of Kettlersville, died on Sunday, April 9, 2023 at 9:27 A.M. at his residence. He was born on January 7, 1940 in Upper Tygart, KY to William H. and Maudie (Jesse) Sloan. On July 20, 1963 he married Sharon D. Brotherwood who preceded him in death on May 16, 2008 after 45 years of marriage. On April 20, 2011, he then married Ellen J. (Paige) Kline-Sloan, who survives in Kettlersville, and they shared 12 years of marriage together. Also surviving Charles are his children: Cheri (Randy) Scheer of New Bremen, Robert (Ron) Sloan-Anderson of Dayton, Donna Sloan of Greenville, Bonnie Rhoads of Minster, Barbara (Dan) Bonifiglio of Maineville, OH, David (Kim Bunch) Sloan of Montra, step children; Kenneth (Melissa) Kline of Ansonia, Melissa (Ron) Pickrell of Celina, Jo-Ellen (Billy) Litmer of Celina, honorary daughter Beth Shroyer; his 9 grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 10 step great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings; Carl Sloan of Sidney, Dorothy (Carl) Case of Botkins, Charlotte Sharp of Sidney, Rebecca (Aaron) Nason of Anna, and Daniel (Karen) Elsner of Covington. Preceding him in death was a daughter Ruth Ann Sloan and his siblings Orie Grandstaff and Roger Elsner.

Charlie was a 1958 graduate of Anna High School. After high school, he went on to serve in the United States Army from 1958-1961 where he was stationed in France. He had been a member of Immanuel Church of Kettlersville. His family was his main focus in life. He loved and adored his wives and he cherished his relationships with his children. He loved to spend time spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Outside of his family, he was an active and dedicated member of the Kettlersville-Van Buren Twp. Fire Dept. for many years and had served as the Assistant Chief for 12 years. He also served as President and then later as Secretary of the Shelby County Firefighters Association, and was named the Shelby County Firefighter of the Year in 1986. He also volunteered for the Anna Rescue Squad for a number of years.

Funeral Services will be on Friday, April 14, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at the Immanuel Church in Kettlersville with Pastor Ed Rinehart officiating. Burial will follow in the Schwaberow Cemetery near Kettlersville. The family will be receiving friends on Thursday, April 13, from 3:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen and again on Friday, one hour prior to the services AT THE CHURCH. The family requests that memorial contributions in Charlie’s name be made to the Kettlersville-Van Buren Twp. Fire Dept. or to Wilson Hospice.
