Nicholas P. Pleiman, age 86,
formerly of New Bremen, died peacefully on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 9:10 A.M. at his residence near Celina after a short battle with cancer. He was born on March 16, 1936 near Osgood, Ohio the son of the late Edward J. and Margaret (Schaefer) Pleiman. On June 22, 1957, he married Rose Mary Koenig, who died on September 14, 2020. Nick and Rosie had nine children: Deborah (dec.) and Damian Brand of Osgood, Cindy and Jeff (dec.) Buschor of Celina, Richard (dec.) and Shirley Pleiman of Coldwater, Patrick Pleiman (dec.), Connie and Jim Siefring of Coldwater, Jeffrey Pleiman (dec.), Michael and Julie Pleiman of Coldwater, Sandi and Eric Showalter of Westerville, and Gregg and Darla Pleiman of Fishers, IN. He was also blessed with twenty-one grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren with two more on the way. Nick was one of eleven children, and his living siblings and in-laws include: Mary Louise Dahlinghaus, Teresa (Bill) Winner, Helen Grogean, Ellen Grilliot, Johanna (Charlie) Koesters, Linda (Herb) Ranly, and Jerry Pleiman. Along with his parents, four children, and a son in-law, Nick was preceded in death by a granddaughter Sarah, and his siblings and in-laws: Norbert Dahlinghaus, Dolores (Bob) Van Leeuwen, Jim Grogean, John Grilliot, Sister Grace Miriam, S.F.P., Larry Harlamert, Jim (Joan) Pleiman, Ed Pleiman, Jr., and Jan Pleiman.
Nick was a graduate of the former St. John’s High School, Maria Stein, and he had served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Montezuma, and had been a long-time member of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen, where he served as an usher for many years. He had also served as a 4-H advisor and was a member of the former New Bremen Jaycee’s. Nick was a plant manager for the former Bremco Mills in New Bremen. He had a passion for fishing and enjoyed playing card games, especially Euchre. Family was everything to Nick, and he cherished his grandchildren and all the time they were able to spend together.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 10, 2022 at 10:30 A.M. at the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen with Rev. Father Mark Hoying and Deacon Greg Bornhorst officiating. Interment will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery of New Bremen. Calling Hours will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2022 from 2:00 until 5:00 P.M. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, and again on Monday morning AT THE CHURCH from 9:00 until 10:00 A.M.
