YVONNE V. HARTWIG, 71,
recently of Covington and formerly of New Bremen, died suddenly on Friday, August 20, 2021 at 9:11 A.M. at her residence. She was born on October 9, 1949 in Coldwater, the daughter of the late Vitales G. and Verena M. (Bergman) Grillot. On February 25, 1995, she married Douglas D. Hartwig who died on December 27, 2014. Surviving are her children Jasmine Cotrell of St. Marys, and Jeremy (Lisa) Hartwig of Covington, as well as her beloved grandchildren: Chloe, Arianna, Gabrielle, Ava, Isaac, and Levi. Also left to cherish her memory are her siblings: Elaine Knapke of Kalida, Ohio, Michael Grillot of Ft. Loramie, Anthony (Theresa) Grillot of Osgood, Maureen (Al) Martin of Jackson Center, Anita (Tim) Lewis of Portland, Indiana, and Eunice (Bob) Puthoff of Osgood, as well as her mother in-law Alice Hartwig of New Bremen. Along with her parents and husband, Yvonne was preceded in death by her siblings: Eugene, Roger, Joseph, Judith, Nicholas, and Donald Grillot, Vivian Jutte, and Audrey Pond, and her father in-law Duane Hartwig.

Yvonne was a 1967 graduate of Marion Local High School. She had been a cook and waitress at the former Wint’s Restaurant and Bolly’s in New Bremen, as well as the former K-Ville Inn of Kettlersville. In recent years, she babysat her grandchildren until her health no longer permitted. She absolutely adored her grandchildren and loved to spend time spoiling them. She spent many hours playing Yahtzee, or completing word / picture searches with them, reading with them and watching Disney movies with them. She also enjoyed taking family trips to Fletcher’s Pond in Michigan to hunt for mushrooms, playing cards, and bowling in years past.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen with Rev. Becky Erb Strang officiating. Inurnment will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery of New Bremen. Calling hours will be held prior to the services on Saturday, August 28, at the funeral home from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the services. Memorial contributions in Yvonne’s memory can be made to the Hartwig Family Fund at the New Bremen Foundation, or to help the New Bremen community’s stray animal spay/neuter program through the New Bremen Foundation (P.O.     My sympathies to the Grillot and Hartwig families. Even though its been 50+ years since I’ve seen Yvonne ( or most of the Grillot’s for that matter), I think of the family often as growing up in the neighborhood. Time goes by too fast.
