DALE L. SHELLENBERGER, age 73,
of New Knoxville, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at 12:09 P.M. He was born on January 8, 1950, in Lima, the son of the late Donald C and Mildred L. (Howe) Shellenberger. He is survived by his sister Donna Nagel of New Bremen; his nephews and nieces: Corey (Sharon) Paul of New Bremen, Jesse (Susan) Paul of New Bremen, Ariel Booth of Sandusky, Ohio, and his great-nephews and nieces: Shelby Bornhorst, Koby Paul, Sydney Paul, Bethany Paul, and Tyler Paul.
Dale was a 1968 graduate of New Knoxville High School. He had served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and continued his service in the Ohio National Guard and the Air Force Reserves serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. He was very proud of his service to our nation. He kept in touch with many of his fellow service members and enjoyed attending his unit’s reunions each year. Dale could fix anything and enjoyed tinkering around in his garage, going to garage sales and making the trip to visit the Exchange down at WPAFB. He had worked as a self-employed handyman for a number of years, but had also worked for the former New Idea in Coldwater, Monarch Lathes in Sidney, and for Crown Equipment Corp. in New Bremen where he retired in 2020 as a member of the 25 year club. Dale will be remembered as a private person, but someone who was always willing to help others.
Graveside memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 1:30 P.M. in the Evangelical Protestant Cemetery in New Knoxville with Pastor Joel Bucklin officiating. Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen is assisting the family with arrangements, and condolences and memories can be shared with the family online at www.gilberghartwigfh.com

September 2, 2023 at 2:26 pmLived next door for a short while. He was a good neighbor, sharing peaches and mowing my yard for the last time of the season. I enjoyed hearing his organ music when I was outside. He had a hidden talent!

September 5, 2023 at 6:33 pmVery sorry for your loss, Donna and family. Dale was a classmate and we just saw him about 5 weeks ago at our 55th reunion. As you mentioned, he was a private person, yet could talk about lots of things one-on-one. He will be missed. May you find strength in the Lord and His Word in the upcoming days and months.
