JANICE L. DAMMEYER, age 90

Of rural New Bremen, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at 9:22 P.M. at the Joint Twp. Dist. Memorial Hospital in St. Marys. She was born on February 14, 1932 in Sidney, the daughter of the late Harry L. and Frances (Widener) Hamsher. On December 1, 1962, she married Don I. Dammeyer, and he survives near New Bremen. Also surviving are her children and their spouses: Dave (Tracey) Dammeyer, and Debra (David) Kramer all of New Bremen; her six grandchildren: Rachel (Dan) Schrader of Versailles, Nick Kramer, Sarah Kramer, Andrew (Casey) Kramer, Alivia Dammeyer and Amelia Dammeyer all of New Bremen; her seven great-grandchildren: Leah, Luke, Levi, and Lily Schrader, Ila Kramer, Josie Kramer, and Cora Kramer. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Wayne Hamsher.

Jan graduated from Sidney High School in 1950, and went on to attend business college in Columbus, initially meeting Don for the first time on the bus ride there. The two later met at a dance at the Crystal Ballroom, began dating, and rarely spent a moment apart since that time. She was a long-time member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen, and after her children were born, she taught Sunday school, assisted with vacation Bible school, and later she joined the Saturday Night church choir. She was a devoted homemaker who worked hard to raise her children and later in life, she babysat for her grandchildren and also the Thobe family. She was also a clerk at Schwieterman’s Pharmacy in New Bremen for over twenty years. She and Don enjoyed dancing and bowling, and playing cards in several card groups. As a family they took trips to Michigan, Niagara Falls, Kings Island and Cincinnati Reds games. Jan was a very social person who did not know a stranger; she only saw the best in every person that she met.

Deepest sympathy from the Mueller family. Growing up as neighbors i spent a lot of time at their house. Jan was one of three moms who took turns driving several of us to kindergarten. May God give peace and blessings to her family.

We are so sorry to hear of your loss. The intertwined histories of the Blanke/Dammeyer families go back many years with too many memories to briefly mention here. Jan was an integral part of so many aspects of our lives through the years, we have trouble picturing Lock Two Rd without her smiling presence. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family throughout this difficult time.
