Janice M. Clune August 12, 1940 - January 22, 2024

JANICE M. (STANG) CLUNE, age 83,
of New Bremen, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her children at 4:30 A.M. on Monday, January 22, 2024. She was born on August 12, 1940 in Ft. Loramie Ohio, the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Ruth M. (Monnin) Stang. On April 30, 1960, she married Robert L. Clune, and he died on October 25, 2020. Surviving are her children: Brenda (Mike) Reichert of Lewistown, OH, Sue (Rick) Niekamp of New Bremen, Diane (Todd) Speelman of Seattle, WA, and Jason Clune of Port Clinton, OH; her eleven grandchildren: Lauren (Nick) Seger, Isaac, Adam, and Gabe Reichert, Philip (Sarah) Niekamp, Jackie (Chris) Ball, Austin (Sofya) Speelman, Alex (Taylor) Speelman, Adrian (Jenna) Speelman, Paige and Zach Clune; and her thirteen great-grandchildren: Eva, Conrad, Cora, Tessa, and Ivan Seger, Damian, Xavier and Clara Ball, and Liam, Johnny, and Sean Niekamp, and Cedric Speelman and Alessandra Speelman. Also left to cherish her memory are her siblings: Dave (Louise) Stang of Sidney, OH, Larry (Jeannie) Stang of Stow, OH, Jim (Peg) Stang of Russia, OH, Mary Ann (Dean) Shade of Florida, and Nancy (Danny) Reis of Texas. Along with her parents and husband, Janice was preceded in death by her brothers: Ed (Pat) Stang and Bob Stang.

Jan was a 1958 graduate of Ft. Loramie High School. She was an active member of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen where she was a holy duster, a Eucharistic Minister, and was a member of the Alter Society. She had worked at the former Manbeck Nursery of New Bremen and also babysat children in their home before going to work at New Bremen Schools where she was a cafeteria monitor and junior high librarian / study hall monitor for over 20 years. She had been a Girl Scout troop leader and also belonged to a Bridge club. She enjoyed the annual event of making chocolate candies with her friends in December for 36 years. In her spare time, Jan was a meticulous gardener who loved to grow vegetables and flowers each year. Jan and Bob were serious sports fans and were dedicated members of the New Bremen Athletic Boosters and the 301 Club. She also worked the election polls for many years. Along with their friends, they enjoyed gathering after sporting events to dissect the game. Bob and Jan enjoyed traveling the world, taking trips to the casino, spending time with their close group of friends, and playing cards with their family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 10:30 A.M. the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen with Rev. Fr. Matt Jozefiak and Deacon Greg Bornhorst officiating. Interment will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery of New Bremen. Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024 from 3:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, and again on Saturday from 9:00 until 10:00 A.M. at the church. Meal will be provided at the church hall after the Interment. Memorial contributions be made to the New Bremen Athletic Boosters, or to Grand Lake Hospice.
