SANDRA Y. THIEMAN, age 74
Of New Bremen, died on Sunday, August 26, 2018, at 7:31 P.M. She was born on March 23, 1944 in Celina, Ohio, the daughter of the late Wilbur A. and Corrine A. (Scheer) Dicke. After her mother’s passing, Sandy was raised by her step-mother, the late Irene E. (Kruse) Dicke. On November 28, 1964, she married Thomas Thieman, and he survives in New Bremen. Also surviving are their children Todd (Mari) Thieman of New Bremen, Darlene (Trevor) Altman of Littleton, CO, and Michelle (Bartt) Suchland of New Bremen; their grandchildren: Alyssa, Abbi, Alayna, and Aaron Thieman, Madison, John, and Troy Altman, and Logan and Will Suchland, a sister Susan (John) Vogel of St. Marys, and a sister-in-law Beverly Dicke of New Bremen. Along with her parents and step-mother, Sandy was preceded in death by a brother Kenneth Dicke.
Sandy was an active member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen, where she was involved with several groups and organized the monthly senior luncheons. She was a 1962 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School, and graduated from the Grant Hospital School of Nursing in Columbus, Ohio. Over the years she worked as a nurse in several locations, but ultimately ended up helping her husband Tom to run the family business, Thieman Stamping. She was involved with the Auglaize County Crisis Center, was a board member for the United Church Homes, and was a Kindergarten volunteer at New Bremen Schools. Sandy loved her family and spending time with them was very important to her. Some of their favorite activities included fishing, traveling, playing games, attending sporting events, mushroom hunting, and rescuing monarch butterflies. Sandy will be remembered as kid at heart, always putting others needs ahead of her own. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother and grandmother, and a good friend.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen, with Rev. Becky Erb Strang officiating. Following the service the family invites friends to join them for a fish fry held at the Speedway Lanes in New Bremen. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the German Protestant Cemetery in New Bremen. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018 from 3:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, and one hour prior to the services at the church on Sunday. Memorial contributions in memory of Sandy can be made to the Auglaize County Crisis Center, The Nicholas School, or Camp Washington United Church of Christ. August 28, 2018 at 8:27 amCondolences to the family and friends . Sandy was my classmate and, although we didn’t stay in touch after graduation, something I regret; I have often thought of her. Her sweet personality and smile have never left my memories of her nor ever will. Knowing her was a gift.
