THOMAS J. BLASER – age 64,
Of New Bremen, formerly of Findlay, Ohio, died on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at 2:22 PM at the Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio. He was born on January 11, 1955 in Toledo, the son of the late Eugene G. and Mary (Dolan) Blaser. On March 26, 1982, he married Vicki Blanke, and she survives in New Bremen, and also his children: Elizabeth Blaser of Arvada, CO, Michael Blaser of Tamuning, Guam, and David Blaser of Livonia, MI. Also surviving are his siblings: Patricia Blaser of Rapid City, SD, Susan Blaser of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Kate (Rick) Blaser Dienel of Natick, MA, Robert (Trish) Blaser of Wildwood, MO, and Charles (Samantha) Blaser of Orlando, FL. Along with his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his sister Jane Blaser.
Tom was a member of the St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Findlay. He attended DeVilbiss High School. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree and MBA from the University of Toledo. He made a career at Marathon Petroleum Co. in Findlay working as an Environmental Engineer and System Analyst for 32 years before his retirement in 2014. Tom was an avid boater. He was in the Sailing Club at Toledo, and he crewed on many racing boats in the Great Lakes. His greatest boating adventure was travelling many miles over the past five years on his trawler, “Grand Baron”, with Vicki and their dogs. Tom loved traveling and camping throughout the USA and Canada. Most of all Tom was a great father, a devoted husband, and loyal friend.
A Catholic service will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen officiated by Rev. John R. Blaser. In keeping with Tom’s style, the family asks that you please come dressed casually. Following the service, a gathering for family and friends will be held at the Blanke farm. Memorial contributions in memory of Tom can be made to the James Cancer Hospital at Ohio State University or to the Auglaize County Council on Aging.

September 16, 2019 at 9:20 amI was so very, very saddened to hear about Tom. I worked with him for many years at Marathon. He was a just great co-worker in so many ways. His ability to take an idea and turn it into reality was amazing. All the while, doing it with a smile, a story or joke and a compliment for everyone. His faith and love of his family (including fur babies) was known without a doubt. Tom will be in our hearts and memories always. Wishing Vicki, Elizabeth, Michael, David, and the entire family, comfort, strength and peace.

October 17, 2019 at 6:00 pmI am sorry I could not be at the service. The Blanke girls, the Westerbeck girls, and my sisters were all part of a neighborhood tribe. I was outnumbered by the girls growing up, but in the end, they were all sisters to me. I am sorry Vicky. You and Tom deserved more time together. It was apparent to me the first I met him what an excellent mind he had. I enjoyed him.
